Since this tenure began in July, we've experienced incredible growth and unforgettable moments together. In this edition of our newsletter, we're taking a look back at the highlights from our journey in 2024. So, grab a cup of your favourite holiday drink, get cozy, and let's take a trip down memory lane.
On July 13, we celebrated a defining moment in the organization - our 36th Annual Convention and 37th Investiture Ceremony. This grand event ushered in a new tenure of dynamic executives and a fresh Local Organization year. The occasion was graced by distinguished guests, JCIN Senators, our vibrant JCIN UNILAG members, and notable figures from the UNILAG community. This remarkable day celebrated leadership, unity, and a shared commitment to making an impact, setting the stage for a Local Organization year filled with opportunities and growth.
To celebrate individuals excelling in their respective fields, JCIN UNILAG organized the Ten Outstanding Persons’ Awards (TOPA). This prestigious event honoured their remarkable achievements and highlighted their groundbreaking initiatives, showcasing the impact of their contributions to the society.
Thirty JCIN UNILAG members, including alumni, attended the recently concluded National Convention, held at the Park Inn by Radisson, Abeokuta. The enriching experience exposed the delegates to networking opportunities, cultural exploration, including a visit to Olumo Rock, and professional development.
The convention featured engaging panel discussions, career workshops, and a leadership transition ceremony.
A proud moment for the organization was when the Immediate Past President, Risqat Yosola Fijabi, was appointed Personal Assistant to the 2025 JCI Nigeria National President. This memorable event exemplified growth, connection, and the spirit of leadership that defines our organization.
We forged two innovative partnerships. The first was with TEDxUNILAG for its TED Talk themed “Just Dare”. The collaboration offered attendees access to inspiring insights from thought leaders and valuable networking opportunities. Fifteen JCIN UNILAG members participated, enjoying discounted tickets and engaging discussions on innovation and resilience.
Another remarkable partnership was with Web3UNILAG, where JCIN UNILAG supported the visionary event, “Blockchain in UNILAG”. Held on November 15, this initiative introduced attendees to Web 3.0 technologies, blockchain applications, and digital assets. Through active promotion, JCIN UNILAG amplified the event’s reach and highlighted its commitment to forward-thinking initiatives.
We held three General Assemblies this year to promote professional and personal growth among our members. Each session offered unique opportunities for learning and engagement.
Our First General Assembly featured a training session titled Beyond the Four Walls: Earning While Learning, led by JCIN Amb. Ayodeji Akinwande. The training explored practical ways students can generate income while studying, leaving attendees inspired and equipped with actionable insights. The Second had a special session where the Immediate Past President, Risqat Fijabi, and the current Executive Vice President, Fathia Abolore Yusuf, shared their experiences as JCIN UNILAG members, portraying the organization’s impact on their leadership journeys.
Lastly, the Third General Assembly hosted a Fireside Chat with JCIN UNILAG alumnus, Mr. Temitayo Ajibade, a Canadian-based architect. He shared insights on how JCI shaped his career. He also shared how JCI skills translate to corporate success, emphasizing personal and professional growth.
These assemblies exemplify JCIN UNILAG’s commitment to fostering leadership, skill-building, and community engagement among its members.
In November, we had two exciting launches. To begin with, a recruitment call attracted the first batch of interested members, bringing in over 400 new individuals eager to join the organization. The remarkable turnout underscored the growing interest in our impactful programs and opportunities.
Additionally, we began official sales of the JCIN UNILAG merchandise. The collection, featuring a variety of customized items, including branded T-shirts, bucket hats, and water bottles, was met with enthusiasm from members and supporters alike. The initiative aimed to strengthen JCIN UNILAG’s presence and foster a sense of belonging and community among our members.
We organized virtual training sessions for prospective members, designed to prepare them for their roles as active citizens. These sessions provided clarity on the vision and mission of JCI, core values, and organizational formalities.
The trainings also offered a comprehensive overview of what to expect as JCIN UNILAG members, including their roles and responsibilities, as well as the impactful activities they would be involved in. The goal was to ensure intending members are well-equipped to contribute meaningfully to the organization.
As the New Year approaches, it's the perfect time to set bold resolutions and goals for personal growth and community impact. Let's continue striving for excellence in 2025! Cheers to more memories and milestones, Active Citizen.🥂
From all of us at JCIN UNILAG, Happy New Year in advance!
