Hello Enterprising Leaders!
Happy New Month! Can you believe we're already in the final month of the first half of the year? The first half is wrapping up, and if no one has told you lately, you’re doing amazing.
The year is moving fast, and so should you. This is your reminder to check in with those goals you boldly wrote down in January. Crushing them already? We love to see it. Still finding your rhythm? No pressure - refocus, recalibrate, and keep moving. The real flex is looking back at the end of the year and being proud of every single move you made.
This month’s newsletter is packed with all the highlights from May; projects, progress, and everything in between. We’ve been showing up and showing out, and it’s only up from here. Let’s run it back together.
Got a friend who’s still not sure what JCIN UNILAG is all about? Share this newsletter with them, let them see the impact we’re making firsthand.
JCIN UNILAG CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
In May, we put out a call for applications, inviting passionate individuals to join the organization. The call was announced in the early weeks of the month to attract new members.
CONSENT MATTERS PROJECT
What if we told you that “No” isn’t the only way to say no?
We launched the “Consent Matters” Project - a month-long initiative that redefined the conversation around respect, personal space, and communication. The theme for this project was Consent Redefined : Understanding Boundaries. This year’s theme was more than just a phrase, It was a challenge: Can we learn to respect boundaries we cannot always see or hear?
Throughout May, we took this message to the streets, the airwaves, and digital platforms to raise awareness and start meaningful conversations. On the 15th, we organized a Radio session on UNILAG FM to spark conversations.

And on the 24th of May, we held a powerful virtual webinar featuring two exceptional speakers: Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi; Lecturer, Faculty of Law and Ayodeji A. Ifedayo; Psychiatric Nurse & Mental Health Advocate.

The webinar was titled, "Personal Boundaries 101: Knowing, Setting, and Protecting Your Limits". These experts broke down consent as a holistic practice that touches every part of our lives - emotional, physical, mental, and social. They shared valuable insights on Consent Matters, defining what consent is and what it isn’t. They also shared real thoughts on how to set and protect their personal boundaries, busting harmful myths like “if they didn’t say no, it means yes”.
JCIN UNILAG COUNCILLORS
Remember the saying “A win for one is a win for all“? How about a win for three?🤔
We’re thrilled to announce that two of our distinguished members and an intentional alumnus have just added another feather to their already impressive caps. Our Local Organization President, Isaac Temitope Ajenifuja, our Immediate Past President, Risqat Fijabi, and proud alumnus Azeez Salami have all been awarded the prestigious JCI Nigeria Councillorship title.
This milestone shows their unwavering passion for leadership, activeness, and intentionality towards the betterment of JCI Nigeria. We all, at JCIN UNILAG celebrate this heartfelt moment with them as they rise again through the ranks. So the next time you write their names, make it official: JCIN CLR Isaac Temitope Ajenifuja, JCIN CLR Risqat Fijabi, and JCIN CLR Azeez Salami.

LAGOS STATE PUBLIC SERVICE ACCELERATOR PROGRAM
Our members had the unique opportunity to volunteer at the Lagos State Public Service Accelerator Program. From engaging with top government officials like Mr. Bode Agoro, Head of Service, Lagos State, to interacting with various Permanent Secretaries and Commissioners, they gained insights into how the public sector operates.
Learning about the structure and hierarchy within the civil service was not only informative but also inspiring. The program highlighted the state government's commitment to upskilling public servants and improving service delivery.
JCIN UNILAG 5TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY
On May 31, 2025, we held our 5th General Assembly, and it was nothing short of impactful. We had the honour of hosting Senator George Onuma, Executive Secretary Emeritus of JCI Nigeria, as our guest trainer.
Senator Onuma took us through his inspiring journey into JCI during his student days, fondly referring to the organization as "the university of life." His session, titled "JCI Leadership, Values, and Vision - Lead with Purpose," offered a powerful introduction to JCI’s global mission and its commitment to developing leaders who create positive change.
He unpacked the six core values of the JCI Creed, the pillars of effective leadership, and the personal and professional rewards of volunteering. The session ended with an engaging Q&A, where members asked thought-provoking questions and left feeling fired up to grow as impactful Jaycees.
