Hello Enterprising Leader, June did not come to play, and neither did we. 🔥
If June had a theme, it would be impact with spice. From mental health conversations to intellectual showdowns and blood donations that literally saved lives, we were everywhere; walking, talking, debating, serving, and showing the entire campus how leadership should be done.
In case life (or lectures) had you too distracted to keep up, don’t worry. We’ve packed all the highlights, and moments into this newsletter. Call it your official recap of everything we did to make June unforgettable.
So sit back, and let's scroll through the month where we didn’t just make noise, we made a difference.

Faculty Courtesy Visits
As part of our Interfaculty Debate Competition outreach, we paid courtesy visits to several faculty presidents across the University of Lagos. These visits aimed to formally introduce the organization, strengthen inter-faculty relations, and invite faculties to participate in the debate.
The engagements kicked off with a visit to the Faculty of Law President on May 23rd, led by Mr. President, Isaac Ajenifuja, with key executives and a debate team member present. Subsequent visits included the Faculty of Management Sciences on May 26th, and the Faculty of Education and COMPSSA President (representing medical students) on May 27th.
The Faculty of Science was visited on May 28th, followed by the Faculty of Environmental Sciences on June 4th, and both the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Arts on June 5th. Each visit featured various JCIN UNILAG executive members including the Vice Presidents, Directors, and Interfaculty Debate Team members, demonstrating our commitment to collaboration.

Finalist Webinar
On June 7, 2025, we held a Finalist Webinar themed “Degree and Dreams: The Reality of Your Next Chapter.” The session was led by Mr. Oluwafemi Ayoola, who shared practical advice on navigating life after graduation while still maximizing the opportunities available during undergraduate years.
Mr. Ayoola encouraged the finalists to begin shaping their future before leaving school, highlighting key actions such as building strong relationships with supervisors or Heads of Departments (HODs), crucial for securing recommendation letters and guidance on impactful project topics. He advised students to select final-year projects that can serve as a foundation for post-school endeavors.
Volunteering also featured prominently in his message. He stressed that hands-on experience through volunteering significantly enhances one’s CV and showcases initiative, leadership, and a growth mindset.
In closing, he acknowledged the pressure of post-graduation decisions and emphasized the value of a support system. Surrounding oneself with trusted friends, mentors, or family can make a significant difference, from reviewing applications to providing encouragement and accountability.

JCIN UNILAG Week
From June 23rd to 28th, 2025, we hosted our first organization week, tagged JCIN UNILAG Week, a vibrant and impactful week-long series of events centered on the themes of awareness, education, community, and wellness.
The week began with a campus-wide publicity walk, where members shared mental health awareness pamphlets and introduced students to the week’s activities.

On Tuesday 24th, a Mental Health Awareness Webinar themed “Navigating Adulthood: Building Your Future While Prioritizing Your Mental Health” was held in partnership with Mentally Aware Nigeria Initiative (MANI) and UNILAG’s Department of Educational Foundations, providing attendees with tools to manage mental well-being.

Wednesday 25th featured an Interfaculty Debate Competition, in collaboration with Web3 UNILAG, themed “AI and the Future of Learning.” The debate engaged 9 faculties, spotlighting AI’s impact on education and encouraging critical thought, aligning with SDG 4 and SDG 9. Over 180 students attended, with seasoned tech professionals as judges.

On Thursday 26th, 204 new members were officially inducted during the General Assembly and Induction Ceremony. The week continued on Friday 27th with a Blood Drive and Wellness Check-Up, where 60+ students donated blood in partnership with the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service.

The week ended on a high note with a Sports Day on Saturday 28th, uniting students from Rotaract UNILAG, AIESEC, and Web3 UNILAG in friendly competition. Supported by the Nigerian Red Cross Society, UNILAG, and Pocari Sweat, the event promoted health, camaraderie, and fun.

Each activity embodied JCIN UNILAG’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure). This remarkable week reaffirmed the organization's mission to drive sustainable development through service, leadership, and youth empowerment.

JCIN UNILAG isn’t a spectator sport. It’s a space for bold ideas, real work, and people who want to do more than just belong; people who want to build, lead, and leave something behind. So if you’re still watching from the sidelines, consider this your nudge. The second half of the year holds even more possibilities, and we’re not slowing down. Let’s keep showing up, and standing out. Have an amazing month, Enterprising Leader.
